Formerly TikTok has introduced Family Pairing that included extensive parental features, allowing minor’s accounts to be associated with adults. TikTok declared that it would add programs to boost youth safety and policies for well-being. As of March 2019, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined TikTok a record $5.7 million following its failure to acquire parental consent for users below 13 years of age. The reports of adults contacting children through the app were included in the formal FTC complaint. In response, TikTok offers a different app experience to users below 13 years of age that includes more limitations.

The app has launched nearly six safety videos. These videos explain the procedures to report inappropriate content, limit the amount of time spent on the app, enable restrict mode, control the user comments on their videos, visibility of the messages, and a general video to encourage respectful behavior to every user.
